LPG Gas Home Delivery Rules and Procedures (Updated as of March 29, 2025)

LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is an essential household fuel in India. To enhance consumer convenience, LPG service providers such as Indian Oil Corporation (Indane) offer services like new connections, subsidy benefits, transfer of connections, online booking, and home delivery. In an effort to streamline secure delivery and booking procedures, the Government of India has introduced the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system for LPG cylinder home delivery.

1. New Rule Effective from November 1 – Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)

From November 1, 2020, a new rule has come into force requiring all LPG customers in select cities to use a Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) during cylinder delivery.

  • Purpose: This measure is introduced to ensure that LPG cylinders are delivered to the correct consumer.

  • Process: A one-time password (OTP), known as the Delivery Authentication Code, will be sent to the consumer’s registered mobile number at the time of delivery.

  • Condition: LPG cylinders will only be delivered upon successful OTP verification.

  • Pilot Project: The DAC system was initially tested as a pilot project in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and is now being rolled out in 100 smart cities.

  • Consequence of Non-Compliance: Customers who do not provide the DAC to the delivery personnel will not receive the cylinder.

2. Unified LPG Refill Booking Number

To simplify the booking process, Indian Oil has launched a single nationwide phone number for LPG refill bookings:

  • Service Availability: 24×7, applicable across India

  • Old Numbers Discontinued: The previously used telecom circle-specific booking numbers have been discontinued after 31st October 2020.

3. Rules for Booking LPG Cylinder Home Delivery

To receive an LPG cylinder through home delivery, customers must comply with the following:

  • The consumer must have a valid LPG connection and a gas connection diary.

  • The home address in the connection diary must be accurate. If incorrect, it should be updated immediately at the nearest LPG agency.

  • The mobile number must be linked to the LPG account, as the DAC will be sent to this number.

  • Typical delivery time is between 2 to 3 working days after booking.

  • Booking restriction: A new LPG cylinder can be booked only after 21 days from the date of the last delivery.

4. Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) Requirement

  • The DAC is mandatory for successful LPG cylinder delivery.

  • The OTP (DAC) must be provided to the delivery personnel during delivery.

  • Failure to show the DAC will result in non-delivery of the LPG cylinder.

5. Delivery Charges for LPG Cylinders

  • Standard Delivery Charges:

    • No additional delivery charges are payable for households located within 5 kilometers of the LPG agency. These charges are already included in the cylinder’s price.

    • Clarification: If any delivery person demands extra payment within this distance, it is unauthorized, and the consumer can file a complaint.

  • Extra Delivery Charges May Apply If:

    • The delivery location is more than 5 kilometers from the LPG distributor.

    • Delivery is made under emergency or special circumstances.

    • In some regions, approved agencies may charge ₹30 to ₹50, or more, depending on the distance or effort required.

6. LPG Home Delivery Cancellation Rules

Consumers may cancel their LPG home delivery as follows:

  • Cancellation must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled delivery time.

  • Late cancellations may incur a cancellation fee, the amount of which is determined by the local LPG agency.

7. Complaint Redressal for Delay in LPG Delivery

If the LPG cylinder is not delivered within 2 to 3 days after booking, the customer can:

  1. Contact the concerned LPG agency directly.

  2. If unresolved, file a formal complaint via:
